What are some of the most common questions people ask you about notary services or the notarization process?

A Notary Public is an impartial witness to the signing of important documents, verifying the identity of the signer and ensuring they sign willingly and knowingly. We also administer oaths and affirmations.

Are there any important things your customers should know before they book an appointment with you?

Before your appointment, please ensure you have valid, acceptable identification. This typically includes a current state-issued driver's license, state-issued identification card, U.S. passport, or military ID. All identification must be unexpired and contain a photo, physical description, and signature.

What information would help someone understand how your mobile notary service works and what they need to prepare?

We cannot accept expired identification, foreign passports without a U.S. visa stamp, or student IDs. If you are unsure about your identification, please contact us at [[phonenumber]] or [[email]] before your appointment.

What is a Notary Public?

A Notary Public is an official of integrity appointed by the state government — typically by the secretary of state — to serve the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents. These official acts are called notarizations, or notarial acts.

Notaries are publicly commissioned as "ministerial" officials, meaning that they are expected to follow written rules without the exercise of significant personal discretion, as would otherwise be the case with a "judicial" official.

What are acceptable forms of identification?

  • Most Driver's licenses, non-driver’s ID cards, Passports, Consular Identification card

  • Oath or Affirmation of a Credible witness: When a document signer is not personally known to the Notary and is not able to present an acceptable ID card, the signer may be identified of a credible identifying witness. Qualifications: Nevada law requires that a credible identifying witness be present at the time of the notarization, be personally known to both the Notary and the Signer, and must swear or affirm to the Notary that the signer is the personal whom the signer claims to be.

  • Acceptable ID’s for 65 or Older? If a person who is 65 years of age or older does not have an ID that meet the acceptable ID requirements and can not produce a credible identifying witness, than an ID card issued by a governmental agency or senior citizen center is acceptable. In this case a Notary is allowed in the state of Nevada to ask for a secondary form of identification, anything that will support the identify on the primary ID

  • Notary Personal Knowledge: meaning the Notary knows the identity of a person through reasonable certainty that the person has the identity claimed (the longer known has been acquainted with a person and more interaction the more likely the Notary can claim personal knowledge of the individuals identity).

What if my document has only my Initial and is spelled out on my ID?

The signer's ID must adequately identify the signer as He or She is named in the document.

Ex. If one of the signer’s first or middle names is an initials in the document (John D. Smith) but is the full name on the document (John David Smith), then the ID adequately identifies the signer.

Ex. If on the other hand, one of the signer's first or middle names is an initial on ID card but NOT on the document, then the ID is not sufficient to identify the signer. In this case, the initial could stand for any number of names other than the one in the document.

Can a Notary refuse service?

Yes, if:

• The signer lacks valid ID

• The document is incomplete

• The signer appears coerced or confused

• The notary has a conflict of interest

Is there a cancelation fee?

NRS 240.100

Yes. If travel has already started for Mobile service or if the appointment can’t be completed due to the signer’s actions (like missing ID, refusing to sign, or canceling last-minute), the notary may still charge a fee.

What if my Acknowledgment or Jurat is in a foreign language to the Notary?

By Nevada Secretary of State stipulates that Notaries may not refuse to perform an Acknowledgment or Jurat on a document that they cannot read, as long as all other requirements for the notarial act are met.
